Editorial Policy
How we research business profiles, where our data comes from, and how we maintain independence. Last updated: June 2026.
Our editorial independence
CompareMyAgents is an independent comparison platform. We are not owned by, affiliated with, or funded by any migration agent, education consultant, or professional services firm listed on this site.
We have no paid listings. We do not accept payment to include a business on our platform, to rank a business higher in search results, to suppress negative reviews, or to promote a business in editorial content. Every business that meets our listing criteria appears on CompareMyAgents on the same terms.
We have no subscription model for businesses. A business cannot pay to remove itself from the platform, improve its placement, or influence how its profile appears. Ranking in search results and on listing pages is determined entirely by objective criteria: review rating, review count, and registration status.
Year 1 monetisation policy
CompareMyAgents does not currently monetise in any form. There are no ads, no premium placements, no subscriptions, and no lead-generation fees. If this changes, we will publish a clear disclosure here and update our About page.
Where profile data comes from
Every business profile on CompareMyAgents is built from multiple data sources. We label each data point so visitors understand what is verified, what is self-reported, and what is inferred.
| Data point | Primary source | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Registration number | OMARA public register (migration agents); PIER register (education consultants) | Cross-referenced at listing time; periodically rechecked |
| Registration status | Government register | Active / Suspended / Cancelled / Expired — directly from register |
| Business name | Government register or ASIC | Preferred over self-reported name where available |
| Office locations | Government register; business website | May be incomplete if not publicly listed |
| Contact details | Business website or public directory | Not verified for accuracy; may be outdated |
| Year established | Registration date from government register | Reflects the registration date, not when the business began operating |
| Languages spoken | Business website or self-reported by claimed profile | Not independently verified |
| Specialisations | Business website or self-reported by claimed profile | Not independently verified; reflects stated areas, not demonstrated expertise |
| Business description | CompareMyAgents research or claimed profile | Objective framing; promotional language removed |
| Google rating | Google Places API | Shown separately from CMA reviews; unverified by us |
What we research independently
Our research team compiles registration data, office information, and publicly available business details for each listed professional. This work is editorial — we decide what is relevant to display, how to present it, and what language to use.
Our research principles
- Factual over promotionalWe do not include marketing language. We describe what a business does, not how great it is at doing it. If a business claims to be "Australia's leading" anything, we do not repeat that claim without evidence.
- Sourced over assumedEvery data point on a profile has a source. We distinguish between what we verified from a government register, what we found on the business's website, and what was self-reported.
- Current over staleWe attempt to keep registration status current. If a migration agent's registration is cancelled, their profile reflects that. If you find a profile with outdated information, please report it.
- Decision-useful over comprehensiveWe display data that helps people decide — registration status, location, specialisations, contact details. We do not include data that is not relevant to a comparison decision.
What businesses submit themselves
Businesses can claim their profile and submit additional information. Claimed profiles are labelled so visitors can distinguish between CompareMyAgents-researched data and self-reported data.
What claimed businesses can add:
- Languages spoken by their team
- Specialisation areas
- A business description (subject to editorial review for neutrality)
- Updated contact details
- Office locations
What claimed businesses cannot change:
- Their registration status (sourced from government registers)
- Their registration number
- Their review scores or ratings
- The order they appear in listing or search results
- Whether their profile appears on the platform
Corrections and inaccuracies
We aim to keep profile data accurate, but we are a small team and we make mistakes. If you find an inaccuracy — a wrong registration number, an outdated address, a business that has closed — please tell us.
Email us at corrections@comparemyagents.com.au with the business name and the specific error. We investigate and correct errors typically within 5 business days.
We also display a "Spot an inaccuracy?" link on every business profile that links directly to our correction process.
Review editorial standards
We apply editorial standards to reviews as well as profile data. Our role in the review process is limited but deliberate.
What we do editorially with reviews
- We verify before we publishNo review appears until the reviewer confirms their email address. We do not publish unverified reviews, even temporarily.
- We do not edit review contentWe do not correct spelling, grammar, or phrasing. What the reviewer wrote is what appears. This preserves the authentic voice of the review.
- We moderate against our policy, not against negative sentimentWe remove reviews that violate our policy. We do not remove reviews because they are critical, harsh, or unflattering.
- We label the trust level of every reviewEvery review displays what verification tier it has achieved. Currently all published reviews are Email Verified. Future tiers will be labelled accordingly.
