Privacy Policy

CompareMyAgents (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates comparemyagents.com.au. We are committed to protecting your personal information and complying with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and store it, and your rights in relation to it.
1. What personal information we collect
When you submit a review
We collect your name (as you provide it), your email address, and the content of your review. Your email address is used only to send a verification link. Once you verify your review, your plain-text email address is permanently deleted from our systems. We retain a one-way cryptographic hash (SHA-256) of your email to prevent duplicate reviews; this hash cannot be reversed to recover your address.
When you browse the platform
We collect standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, referrer) through our infrastructure provider (AWS). We use Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the platform. These services may set cookies and collect anonymised usage data. See Section 5 for details.
When you contact us
We collect your name, email address, and the content of your message when you use our contact form or email us directly.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect payment information. We do not collect government identifiers. We do not collect health information. We do not create user accounts or require registration to browse the platform.
2. How we use your information
We use personal information only for the following purposes:
- To verify your identity as the author of a review you submit
- To publish your review on the relevant business profile (with your chosen display name)
- To detect and prevent duplicate or fraudulent review submissions
- To respond to enquiries you send to us
- To understand how visitors use the platform so we can improve it
- To detect technical errors and security incidents
We do not use your personal information for advertising. We do not sell or share your personal information with businesses listed on the platform. We do not send marketing emails.
3. How we store your information
Review data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase in the Asia Pacific (Sydney) region. Your plain-text email address is stored temporarily in the review_verifications table only until your review is verified, at which point it is permanently deleted. Only a SHA-256 hash of your email is retained after verification.
Your display name and review text are retained as long as your review is published. You may request removal at any time (see Section 6).
Contact form messages are stored only as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry and are then deleted.

We do not share your personal information with any other third parties, including businesses listed on the platform, advertisers, or data brokers.
6. Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information
- Request deletion of personal information (where we are not required by law to retain it)
- Request that your published review be removed
- Complain about how we have handled your personal information

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised. Continued use of the platform after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
