How to choose a NDIS provider

An NDIS provider delivers the supports in your plan — from therapy and support coordination to daily assistance. Choosing well is about fit, clarity, and knowing the difference between registered and unregistered providers.

What they do

They deliver funded supports under your plan. Registered providers are approved and monitored by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission; unregistered providers can still be used by self- and plan-managed participants but aren’t Commission-registered.

How they’re paid

They’re paid from your NDIS funding at the NDIS price guide rates, under a service agreement you both sign. You should always get a clear agreement setting out supports, hours and how changes or cancellations work.

Red flags to watch for

  • Pressures you into a long or locked-in agreement.
  • Is vague about what’s delivered, or bills for supports you didn’t receive.
  • Claims to be “registered” but isn’t on the Commission’s register.
  • Won’t explain how to raise a complaint or change providers.

Questions to ask before you commit

  • Are you registered with the NDIS Commission, or unregistered?
  • Exactly which supports will you deliver, and at what price-guide rate?
  • What are the service-agreement terms — notice, cancellations, changes?
  • How do you handle complaints and safeguarding?

How to verify them

Registered providers appear on the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission register, which also publishes banning orders. Check it before you commit — profiles here link to the Commission.
